Entrepreneur gives life to five others after death

February 15, 2013 09:24 am | Updated 09:24 am IST - Bangalore:

A 49-year-old entrepreneur, who was declared brain dead at BGS Global Hospital on February 12, gave a new lease of life to five patients.

Father of two children, he was declared brain dead after he suffered cerebellar infarction.

“He was the sole bread-winner of the family. Although he used to work as a driver earlier, he had recently started a catering business,” a family member said.

Following counselling by the Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka (ZCCK) for transplantation and on learning about organ donation, the donor’s father convinced the other family members to give their consent for organ donation.

The donor’s vital organs — kidneys and liver — were harvested and transplanted into five needy persons on Thursday. His corneas were also donated, said a release from ZCCK. “All the recipients are doing well post-transplantation,” the release said.
