Civic Bangalore, a non-governmental organisation, has urged the Election Commission to ensure all citizens over 18 are included in the voters’ list, especially slum-dwellers and the homeless.

Kathyayini Chamaraj of Civic Bangalore told presspersons here on Thursday there was large-scale omission of names of citizens living in slums in the voters’ list.

She claimed at least 33 per cent of slum-dwellers were not included in the list and this had come down following the NGO’s proactive measures.

She advised citizens to submit Form 6 for inclusion of their names in the electoral list and insist on a docket number on their acknowledgement sheet.

Within a month, the commission has to intimate the fate of their application. People can submit the application form for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls till April 7.

Civic Bangalore has appealed to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to display the list with details of all forms received, showing docket number, name and address of applicant and so on.

The BBMP should issue notices to those who have not attached proper documents, and ask them to appear for personal hearing. A second person should be appointed to check all entries made by data entry operators into the electoral roll; a penalty of Rs. 100 should be levied for every error made by this team, she said.
