Engineering results in threedays? It's a possibility

Evaluation at VTU to go digital from next year

January 24, 2012 09:03 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:07 pm IST - BANGALORE:

If all goes well, students of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will get their results within one week of the examinations from the next academic year, that too with fewer errors. The evaluation system is all set to go digital. This follows the success of the pilot project last year, in which VTU was able to announce the results in 10 days.

VTU Vice-Chancellor H. Maheshappa told a press conference here on Monday that with full implementation, they may even be able to announce results even in three days.

With this, 20 lakh answer scripts of 3 lakh students from 193 colleges under VTU will be evaluated online. “Students and parents alike want error-free correction. Digital evaluation is now scattered across a few colleges. I think this is the first time a university is implementing the system fully,” he said.

The system enables evaluation of 800 scripts of 44 pages each in eight-hours. The project aims to merge transparency and efficiency and reduce the margin of error resulting in revaluation and re-totalling.

Savings too

There are other perks such as saving Rs. 5 crore each year. “There are many costs that can be cut, such as conveyance (TA/DA) for personnel and stationery,” said Prof. Maheshappa.
