Encroached land worth Rs. 257 crore recovered

Government land measuring about 74 acres and worth Rs. 257 crore was recovered by the district administration on Saturday. Some of it was in the possession a public utility

Most of the land recovered was in Bengaluru Additional North division. A grazing land, which was in the possession of the BWSSB, had been encroached upon by private individuals, who were running an illegal stone quarrying unit. Based on a complaint, officials seized the equipment before filing a criminal complaint at Soladevanahalli police station, Tahsildar Balappa Handigund said.

The Bengaluru East division recovered 4.34 acres of land, which includes 2.34 acres of government grazing land encroached by a leading builder for construction of a multi-storey residential apartment.

Similarly, officials recovered encroached land in Bangalore South and Bengaluru North divisions.

Additional District Commissioner R. Venkatachalapathy said, “Since August, we have recovered 776 acres of encroached land and handed them over to the authorities concerned.”
