BANGALORE - 02.02.2014 : Police inspects the spot where Yadugiri (84) was killed in short circuit in a refrigerator at her residence, Malleshwaram in Bangalore on Sunday.

An elderly woman died of burns at her house in Malleswaram here on Sunday.

The dead woman was identified as M.A. Yadugiri (73), granddaughter of late Rao Bahadur R. Narasimhachar, noted archaeologist and the former vice-president of Mythic Society.

According to the police, Yadugiri lived alone in the house in Malleswaram 9th Cross, and her relatives and siblings stay in the neighbourhood.

The police said that Yadugiri’s relatives rushed to her house when they heard a blast and saw smoke emanating from the house. They found Yadugiri lying on the floor with severe burns. They shifted her to hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The Malleswaram police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of fire.

A team of officials from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company inspected the house of Yadugiri.

They said that they suspect an internal fault in the refrigerator may have been the cause of the accident, and ruled out any fault in the electricity lines.
