Eight hurt as lorry slams into vehicles

Bangalore’s reputation of having the worst drivers in the country was underscored when a speeding mini lorry slammed into a row of vehicles waiting at the traffic light near Sumanahalli bridge on Monday evening, injuring eight persons and damaging more than 10 vehicles.

The vehicles, bound for Magadi from Sumanahalli, were waiting for the light to turn green when the speeding lorry crashed into them, injuring eight of those in the waiting vehicles.

The injured are the lorry cleaner Deepu (23), Pankaja (48), Raju (28), Chandru (30), Santosh (27); two are yet to be identified.

Lorry driver Chinnu (23), also injured, blamed brake failure.

Traffic was disrupted for more than two hours.
