Police have renewed their efforts to track down the man who attacked Jyothi Uday in an ATM kiosk last year. Five special Central Crime Branch (CCB) teams have been sent to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) P. Harishekharan told The Hindu that they got a tip-off about the possible whereabouts of the attacker and his identity, which was being diligently pursued. He said teams are working in Ananthapur, Chittoor and Tirupathi districts of Andhra Pradesh, and Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri and Erode districts of Tamil Nadu.

Sources claimed that police got a tip-off that the ATM attacker may have been lodged in a jail in Tamil Nadu. The teams have also visited Salem Prison in search of the attacker.

City police recently doubled the reward for any information leading to the arrest of the attacker.

An unidentified man had attacked the bank employee, Jyothi Uday, at an ATM kiosk near N.R. Square on November 19, 2013. His image was captured on a CCTV camera at the kiosk and it later turned out that he was also involved in a murder of another woman in Dharmavaram, Ananthapur district. However, after he sold Jyothi Uday’s phone in Ananthapur district, he could not be tracked.
