Two drunken youth allegedly assaulted a head constable of the Ashok Nagar traffic station near Old PS Circle, close to Brigade junction, on Sunday night.

According to the police, Balakrishna (54) was sitting under a traffic umbrella near the junction when he was tapped on the back by someone. “As he got up to check who it was, one of the accused grabbed him by the collar. A few seconds later, he was punched on the face by the youth, who fled from the spot,” the officer said.

The two accused identified as Vinod Kumar and Akesh Kumar, residents of Ejipura, were said to be inebriated. The police managed to trace Akesh soon after the incident. According to Akesh, it was Vinod who punched the constable. The police are on the lookout for Vinod, who is absconding. Meanwhile, Mr. Balakrishna was taken to Bowring Hospital for treatment. He was discharged later in the night.

The incident comes close on the heels of the alleged assault on Ramegowda, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Mico Layout police station, by two motorcyclists a week ago.
