A 25-year-old school van driver was arrested from Siddhiah Road here on Monday for allegedly ferrying school children while being under the influence of alcohol.

The Wilson Garden police were conducting vehicle checks along the stretch around 10.15 a.m. when they saw the school bus weaving recklessly on the road.

Upon intercepting it, they subjected the driver to an alcohol test and found that he was drunk. “There were seven children in the vehicle and were shifted to another van belonging to the same school,” a police officer said.

The police have seized the van and arrested the driver, Ravi, who also did not have a driving licence. He has been booked for rash and drunk driving and also for driving without a licence. “The school authorities are yet to meet me,” said the police officer.
