A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel on Friday recovered the body of Harish, an engineering student who had drowned along with four others in a quarry pit in Bettahalasooru of Chikkajala on Thursday.
NDRF personnel, who were pressed into service on Thursday, managed to recover the four bodies after a day-long operation. They called off the operation at around 6.45 p.m. citing bad light. On Friday morning, the team resumed the operation and managed to recover the body, a senior police officer said.
The bodies have been sent to hospital for post-mortem. The police are awaiting the report to ascertain the cause of death. Harish, Arun Chadrashetty, Nanda Kumar, Rajesh and Kem Patai, along with three others, had gone for a swim in the quarry pit. When the five ventured into the 80-ft deep water, one of them drowned. While trying to rescue him, the other four also lost their lives.
