The four youths who attacked two traffic policemen during a drive against drunken driving at HSR Layout late on Saturday night, allegedly did not cooperate with the policemen initially. The HSR Layout police identified the accused as Rakesh, Arun Kumar, Santosh and Harish, all residents of Kammanahalli and said to be in their late twenties.

Sources said Santosh, who was driving the SUV, refused to take the breathanalyser test and entered into an argument with head constable Nanje Gowda. When sub-inspector Rajanna heard the commotion, he went to the spot and asked Santosh to park the SUV aside and get off the vehicle, sources said.

The police said at that point, Santosh along with his friends got off the vehicle and allegedly started raining blows at the policemen. The accused allegedly dragged the two policemen on the road in a bid to push them in front a moving lorry, the police said. A few passers-by noticed the commotion and rushed to the rescue of the policemen. A few others caught the four youths before alerting the police control room. Investigation revealed that the accused, all businessmen, were returning home from a party. Both Rajanna and Nanje Gowda sustained multiple injuries and have been hospitalised.
