Driver arrested for assaulting friend’s wife

The police, on Saturday, arrested a 28-year-old driver who allegedly attacked his friend's wife with a chopper after attempting to rape her. The accused Naresh drives a goods vehicle.

The accused and the complainant live in the same neighbourhood.

According to the police, he would often visit her when her husband was away, and allegedly harass her. On Thursday morning, he allegedly barged into her house while she was alone and attempted to rape her.

“She started shouting for help, which drew the attention of neighbours. Sensing trouble, Naresh fled, only to return late in the night armed with a chopper,” said the police.

He attacked her with a chopper. He fled when neighbours rushed to her aid. The woman sustained head injuries and was admitted to a private hospital.

Based on a complaint, police tracked down the accused and arrested him for attempted murder, sexual harassment and trespassing.

Naresh was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
