Infrastructure Development and Information Minister Santosh Lad on Monday said the detailed project report (DPR) for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system for Bangalore is ready.

Mr. Lad told presspersons here that the DPR for LRT, covering a distance of about 40 km, was prepared by U.K.-based concern — Capita Simonds. The DPR is being sent to the Finance Department and after its concurrence, it would be placed before the Cabinet for approval, the Minister said.

The project, estimated to cost about Rs. 8,000 crore, would be undertaken under public-private partnership, he said. Mr. Lad said the LRT would act as a feeder to the Namma Metro.

He, however, did not divulge the details of the report saying the same could be made public only after Cabinet approval.

The Bangalore Airport Rail Link (BARL) Ltd., a State-government concern, which earlier was tasked with preparing the DPR for LRT, had suggested corridors of a distance of about 41 km. One corridor was from J.P. Nagar to Hebbal via outer ring road (31 km) and the other was from near Tavarakere on Magadi Road to Magadi Road Tollgate (10 m) linking the Metro Reach 2 line.
