In a shocking incident, a man bludgeoned his wife and mother-in-law to death with a grinding stone at their house in Nelagedaranahalli on Tuesday night. The man Basavaraj (32), has fled the spot after the incident and is still at large.

Basavaraj hailing from Hosadurga in Chitradurga district was married to Chandrakala (28) six years ago and the couple were living in Hosadurga. Basavaraj was working as a truck driver at a brick kiln in the village. However, marital differences cropped up and Chandrakala walked out on Basavaraj and came down to the city and started living with her mother and sister's family in Nelagedaranahalli six months back.

Basavaraj tried convincing his wife to return to the village with him but in vain. This reportedly led to a bitter argument following which Basavaraj committed the crime. The mother-in-law Omkaramma (62) was also crushed with the same grinding stone.

Peenya police have registered a case of murder and launched a manhunt for Basavaraj.
