To streamline production of documentary and short films in the State, Saakshi, documentary and short film makers’ forum, will come into being on Friday.

Headed by filmmaker T.S. Nagabharana, the forum is expected to bring together all the documentary and filmmakers in the State whose number is estimated to be around 700 to 800. “Independent film-making has increased due to availability of digital technology and several others are involved in documentary making, especially for various government departments,” Mr. Nagabharana, told presspersons here on Wednesday.

Increase reach

He said that sometimes it is not even known whether a documentary has met its objective and reached the audience. “Anyone with at least one documentary or short film to their credit can become a member. The forum will also organise training, workshop and seminar,” he added.

Information Minister Santhosh Lad will inaugurate the forum. H.M.K. Murthy will be conferred with the M.B. Krishnaswamy award instituted in the name of the first documentary maker in Karnataka.

Those interested may contact Saakshi, 208/ 02, 3rd Main, Chamarajpet or call 080 26612218/ 98452 72729.
