A new Mysore district-in charge Minister will be announced in the next two days, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said. He was speaking to presspersons at the Mysore airport here on Tuesday. Mr. Yeddyurappa was in the city in connection with the Vijaya Sankalpa rally.
Shobha Karandlaje, who held the portfolio of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and was also in charge of Mysore district, had to resign following a demand by the dissidents in the BJP, led by the Reddy brothers, last year.
The Chief Minister also said that the gram panchayat elections would be held before May 15.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said the BJP was committed to decentralisation of power. He said that measures would be taken to ensure adequate production of power and help the State tide over the power crisis.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike election results in which the BJP romped home with a majority, proved that the people had reposed faith in the party and thanked the electorate for it.
He said that the Government would sanction Rs. 50,000 as subsidy to purchase a cow to encourage dairy farming in the State and enhance milk production. Beneficiaries would receive loans at a low interest rate of 6 per cent. This would not only give a boost to milk production but also provide relief to dairy farmers.
Referring to inauguration of the Mysore airport, the Chief Minister said the Government was in constant touch with the Airports Authority of India and also air operators. He expressed confidence that commercial flight operation from Mysore would commence “very soon”.
Later, Mr. Yeddyurappa inaugurated the Vijaya Sankalpa rally in the city and urged party workers to galvanise themselves for the gram panchayat elections. BJP State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa and national general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar also addressed the party workers and urged them to work hard.
The Chief Minister also participated in the silver jubilee celebrations of Nataraja Institutions.
