If you drop by at the Rangoli Metro Centre on M.G. Road this weekend, you will get to see the art work of autistic children.
From drawings and paintings to carpentry works, the children from ‘Sense Kaleidoscopes’, a vocational centre for autistic children in Jakkur, will be exhibiting their creative skills at Vismaya Gallery from Friday to Sunday.
The children are trained at the vocational centre to help them develop skills in screen-printing, pottery, carpentry, data entry, horticulture and visual arts.
The centre was set up in January last year by Anima Nair, parent of an autistic child, and Akshayee Shetty, an art consultant. “See the child first and the autism later,” said Anima Nair, who believes that it is important for autistic children to be accepted and respected in society. “Autism is a difficult disorder for any child. Only when people are aware of it, can they understand and accept such children in society,” she said.
The first such exhibition at the centre will promote the art work of 15-year-old Ayush Bhambhani. It will be inaugurated at 6 p.m. on Friday in the presence of the families of autistic children and will continue over the weekend.
Ms. Nair is hoping that Rangoli Metro Centre extends the exhibition for one more day (Monday).
