The State government has decided to hold the Diploma Common Entrance Test (D-CET) this year too for diploma students seeking lateral entry into engineering colleges. Officials of the KEA said the D-CET will be held sometime in June.
With a section of the students and parents questioning the need to conduct the D-CET by citing the All India Council for Technical Education Approval Process Handbook 2012-13, which does not mention an entrance test, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education Rajneesh Goel said: “The AICTE does not mention that CET cannot be conducted for students seeking lateral entry”. Hence, “the procedure for this will be the same as last year”, he added.
Students and parents opposing D-CET have been seeking lateral admission on the basis of marks scored in diploma exams.
