Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the government has accorded top priority for development of Bengaluru and reiterated that besides removing structures and evicting illegal dwellers, stringent action is being initiated against the builders and officers who colluded with land encroachers.

In his address to the State after hoisting the tri-colour on the 70th Independence Day celebrations at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground here, he said the residents of Bengaluru suffer from water logging and flooding, whenever there are heavy rains. “This situation is due to encroachment and construction in the tank beds and storm water drains.”

In a 24-page address to the people of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah announced the planning of the implementation of third phase of Namma Metro has begun, which envisages connectivity from Central Silk Board Junction to Krishnarajapura and from Nagawara to Kempe Gowda International Airport, which would be completed by November.

He said during the last three years, the government has evicted and confiscated 4950 acres of encroached land worth Rs. 52,000 crore in Bengaluru Urban district.

Under the Nagorathana Yogana, Rs. 2000 crore had been provided for the city’s infrastructure development. A total of 574 works are on the anvil, including Grade Separator at Kittur Rani Channamma Circle on the Outer Ring Road and an eight-lane corridor between Okalipuram Junction and Fountain Circle.

The Chief Minister said tenders have already been invited for the construction of steel bridge from Minerva Circle to Hudson Circle. A sum of Rs. 800 crore would be spent to convert select main roads of the City into white topping.

In the BBMP limits, he said Rs. 800 crore would be spent for developing major water canals and Rs. 156 crore for tank rejuvenation and development. For disposal of over 3500 tonnes of solid waste a day that the city generates, a sum of Rs. 300 crore was being given this year and Rs. 300 would be given in the next year, he said.

With addition of 110 villages to the BBMP, Mr. Siddaramaiah said Rs 5,018 crore plan has been prepared for implementing the Cauvery 5th phase for providing 775 million litres drinking water per day.
