The all-important placement season at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, commences on Saturday, albeit in a brand new format that aims to take the pressure off both students and companies.
So unlike previous years, the placement process will be carried out over successive weekends, starting February 18. The mood is upbeat, students say, even as there is speculation about how the placement season will pan out with international placements expected to be on a low.
The jitters
A student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that they have had sessions to orient students towards placements and this has helped them a lot. “There are the usual pre-placement jitters, but that is always there,” the student said.
Speaking to The Hindu , P.D. Jose, member of the placement cell, said that the campus was gearing up for placements. While the new revamped format means some changes in the process, he said things were more or less in place.
IIM-B authorities, reluctant to share any numbers, confirmed that this year too some students had opted to defer placements. Besides, many have also got several pre-placement offers from companies they interned at. Again, though numbers were not available to be shared with the media, students said that the lateral placement process too had concluded smoothly and successfully this year.
Around 100 companies are expected to visit the campus, including public sector units from across the country. Prof. Jose said that a “substantial number of companies” are slated to visit in the first week.
However, the IIM has decided to scrap the system of Slot Zero, the slot where companies vied with each other for the best students and the best spot.
Finance and consulting firms are scheduled to visit the campus on Saturday.
