South African social rights activist, retired Archbishop and Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu will be in the city to participate in a three-day international conference on “Global health future — creating integrated solution to the epidemic of long terms solutions”, organised by the College of Medicine, U.K., in association with Soukhya Foundation, India, from November 13. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj will inaugurate the conference at the Marriott Whitefield.
The conference will emphasise on healthcare systems of the world, adopting an integrated approach to medicine and health, working towards the treatment and prevention of long-term diseases. It will also help doctors and health systems in different countries learn from each other. Representatives from World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health, Government of India, will also attend, a release said.
Apart from Archbishop Tutu, speakers at the panel include Prince Charles (via video); Dean Ornish, Sir John Oldham, Jonathon Porritt, Dr. Kerryn Phelps, Ranjit Roy Chaudhury and other international experts.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Dr. Mathai’s Rural Holistic Health Centre on the Soukya Foundation premises on November 15. The centre has been established at the Government Primary Health Centre of Jadigenahalli Gram Panchayat, Hoskote taluk. It provides integrated medical healthcare to seven villages through a host of programmes, including school and anganwadi health check ups, preventive medicine among others.
Two books will be released on the occasion: “Dr. Mathai’s Holistic Health Guide” for women will be released by the Governor on the inaugural day and “Holistic healing” will be released by Archbishop Desmond Tutu at the closing ceremony on November 15.
The three-day programme also features contemporary dance performances by Attakkalari Centre for Movement of Arts at the inaugural dinner and classical danseuse Mallika Sarabai.
