A dentist has been arrested by the Jnanabharathi police following a complaint of dowry harassment by his wife.

The police said Akash Raj (30), a native of Udupi, had been accused of harassing his wife Sapna (27), a Davangere native, for dowry.

The wife, in her complaint with the Jnanabharathi police, said despite having received a hefty dowry from her parents during their wedding in 2011, he had been demanding more, including a four-wheeler. She has also accused him of abusing her sexually.

Hit and run

A security guard was killed in a hit and run on Saturday on Residency Road, near Konark Hotel. The Ashoknagar traffic police said Armugam (55) was walking towards Mayo Hall from Richmond Road around 6 a.m. when he was hit by the as yet unidentified vehicle. Investigation is on to trace the vehicle.

Arrested for fakes

The Central Crime Branch have arrested two men allegedly involved in selling of imitation watches, belts and spectacles, and seized goods worth Rs. 10 lakh from them.

A press release said Mubarak (25), a resident of Padarayanapura, and Ali (26), a resident of Gandhinagar, were arrested for alleged manufacture and sale of imitation fake Tag Heuer and Louis Vuitton accessories. A case has been registered by the Upparpet police.

Ganja haul

In another case, the CCB police have arrested Anand (28), a resident of Anjanappa Garden, while he was trying to sell ganja at Usman Junction on N.R. Road.

The police, who seized 5 kg ganja worth Rs. 1 lakh, said Anand sourced the contraband from Kolar and was selling ganja rolls for Rs. 100 each near the railway track in Shamanna Garden. Another suspect, Kolar resident Amjad, who is the alleged supplier, is absconding. The S.J. Park police have registered a case.
