“Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar are two eyes of the country. Ideals of both these visionary leaders are necessary to build a strong country,” writer B. Gangadharmurthy said. He was delivering a lecture on Gandhi and Ambedkar organised by 'Chinthakara Chavadi' here on Sunday.

Though Gandhi and Ambedkar had differences of opinions on various issues, they shared common ideal of equality and eradication of untouchability, Mr. Murthy said.

Mr. Murthy, a retired English lecturer, expressed deep concern about the developments in the country. “Constitution, ideals of secularism and democracy are under threat,” he said.

Referring to the issue of cow slaughter, Mr. Murthy said Gandhi was not in favour of Gau Raksha. “He refused to speak against cow slaughter at the Belagavi session of Congress,” Mr. Murthy said. Senior Dalit leader Bangavadi Narayanappa presided over the meeting.
