Delay in procurement of newspapers in libraries

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:02 pm IST - Bengaluru:

City central libraries have been facing lot of problems since March in the procurement of not just new books, but also newspapers. This is causing a lot of inconvenience to people.

The delay in procurement has been attributed to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) not disbursing the library cess that it collects as part of property tax from citizens.

The problems persist in each of the five city central libraries.

The delay in procurement of books and newspapers has affected the regulars, especially students. “Every day, many students access these libraries, where they prepare for competitive exams. If libraries are not updated regularly, students like me will suffer,” said S. Manjunath, a student.
