Daughter told on Saturday

Prabha’s nine-year-old daughter, Meghana, was unable to comprehend several things around her — why she was not allowed to watch television or why her father had suddenly rushed to Australia. It was only on Saturday night, more than a week after the incident took place in Sydney that her father, Arun Kumar, returned from Australia and told her about her mother’s death.

Prabha’s family friend, Kumaraswamy, said Mr. Arun Kumar hugged Meghana and told her about her mother’s death. “She is too young to comprehend what has happened. She was looking forward to her mother’s return,” he said. On Sunday, the little girl mostly stayed inside the house in Chandra Layout. She came out holding her father’s hand just before the body was being taken to Amtur.

Meghana’s school principal, Usha Bhat, said she would be exempted from writing the exam. Her past academic records would be considered, she said.
