A Dalit family at mini Kambalapalli in Chintamani taluk in Chickballapur district has sought police protection alleging threat from some members of its community.
In a complaint to the Superintendent of Police of Chickballapur, Kumaramma alleged that K.P. Shivanna of mini Kambalapalli was threatening her and her son B. Jagadish and not allowing them to enter the village.
“Jagadish is actively associated with the organisations which demanded and fought for justice to Dalits in Kambalapalli carnage case. Since the case was now in Supreme Court, Shivanna, one of the accused in murder of an upper caste man, wanted to weaken the case and hence he is threatening us,” Ms. Kumaramma said.
The complainant told police that Mr. Jagadish, who works as a teacher in a private school at Kurabur has not been attending school following the threats.
“We are being obstructed from entering the locality. We are now residing in a village in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh,” Mr. Jagadish told The Hindu over telephone.
However, the police say that the feud was due to financial issues. “We have sent the police to the area following the complaint and counselled those involved,” Chintamani DySP G. Krishnamurthy told The Hindu .
“The State government has approached Supreme Court following acquittal of all accused in the carnage case. And the government is doing its best to get justice for the Dalits. There is no truth in the claims of either Kumaramma or her son,” Mr. Krishnamurthy said.
