Cyclists kick off rally at Cubbon park to mark'“Cyclists Day” in Bangalore on Saturday.

Cycling enthusiasts in the city gathered at Cubbon Park on Saturday to participate in a cycle rally organised to declare the second Saturday of every October as “Cyclists Day”.

The rally was organised under the aegis of ICycle and was flagged off by MLA of Jayanagar B. N. Vijaykumar at Cubbon Park. The participants cycled around 9 km to Chandragupta Maurya ground in Jayanagar, where the rally concluded. The rally is an initiative to encourage people to use bicycles for an eco-friendly and healthy living.

“The introduction of a Cyclists Day is a first of its kind in the country. This day should be observed as one dedicated to celebrating health, peace and prosperity through cycling,” said Mr. Vijaykumar.

Joseph Franklin, co-founder of ICycle, spoke.

Vinay H.K. (33), a participant in the rally, said he regularly uses a bicycle to commute even though he has a motor vehicle at home. “I cycle because it is healthy,” he said.
