On a cloudy and breezy morning on Thursday, the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds in the city came alive with a presentation of cultural programmes by schoolchildren to mark the 67th Independence Day celebrations.
A display of motorcycle stunts by the Army Service Corps (ASC) thrilled thousands and a show of Malkambh by Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Centre, Belgaum, received cheers.
As many as 2,500 schoolchildren, dressed in a riot of colours, danced to patriotic songs. As many as 600 children of BBMP Boys and Girls High Schools, Kasturba Nagar and Chamarajpet, walked away with the first prize in the cultural programme category for their “Veerabhoomi” dance.
A total of 600 children of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya, Bagalur, presented a dance on the theme of the First War of Independence and received the second prize. Students (650) of St Therasa Primary School and High School and Triveni Public School, Hesaraghatta presented “Veera Namana” and got the third prize.
