Regular walkers in Cubbon Park had a Union Minister for company on Friday morning.

Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar went around the park along with the regular walkers and interacted with the members of the walkers’ association. He heard their grievances and promised them that he would discuss the issues that they raised with the State Minister and officials concerned and get them resolved.

S. Umesh, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, who submitted a memorandum to the Minister on behalf of the walkers, urged him to intervene and protect the park from illegal encroachment by certain institutions located around the park. Vehicular movement inside the park should also be banned, he added.

In the memorandum, the walkers expressed concern over the constant movement of vehicles inside the park. “The institutions located around the park conduct live concerts and the loud music is disturbing the birds in the park. Sewage from these institutions is let into the park thus affecting the flora and fauna,” the walkers informed the Minister.

Later, the Minister said a two-day meeting of Environment Ministers of all States would be held from April 6 in Delhi.
