For the first time in several decades, the seven gates of Cubbon Park will be shut for all vehicles on Sunday.

Mahantesh Murgod, Deputy Director of Horticulture Department (Cubbon Park), said the park would be closed for vehicles on trial basis every Sunday and the government would review the decision in the weeks to come.

The gates of Cubbon Park will remain open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all other days.

Mr. Murgod said the decision to keep the city’s lung space closed for motorists on Sundays was taken after various levels of consultations by the government. He said this would help reduce air and noise pollution at least on Sundays.
