Bangalore’s leading civil and structural engineer C.S. Viswanatha (77), Chairman of Civil-Aid Technoclinic Pvt. Ltd., died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Palace Guttahalli on Friday morning at 8.30 a.m. “It was a normal day, and my uncle had his breakfast. He succumbed to a massive cardiac arrest later,” said Viswanatha’s niece, Ashwini.
Viswanatha served as Chairman of the Task Force and Quality Assurance, a government body that checks quality of public constructions. As the main consultants for Namma Metro in Bangalore, Civil-Aid Technoclinic (started by Viswanatha) was involved (along with RITES) from the project report, Building Condition Study stage, to geo-technical investigations from 2004. Dr. Viswanatha never believed in applying for tenders for government work, but was associated with projects only when formally invited, based on his credibility.
Dr. Viswanatha, also the Chief Executive of the Torsteel Research Foundation in India, graduated in civil engineering with distinction from Mysore University and subsequently obtained his master’s degree and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from IISc., Bangalore.
“He was the adviser to public buildings associated with the PWD, the BBMP and the BDA,” said L.N. Prasad, Senior Director, Civil-Aid Technoclinic.
He was responsible for the formation of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE), where the best of civil engineers are brought under an umbrella for quality-construction consultancies.
