Driver bludgeoned to death at construction site

A lorry driver was found bludgeoned to death on Tuesday morning at a construction site on the Haralur-Kudlu Road here where he worked.

H.S.R Layout police said that the body of Mohammad Mohsin Alam (28) was found around 7 a.m. between two trucks by workers in the construction site. His head had been smashed with a rock.

The Bihar native was working in the construction site as a tipper truck driver for the past month.

Workers last saw him on Monday night, after he had collected his wages for the day.

“The other workers slept in a shed, while Mohsin slept in his truck. While the murder might have happened in the middle of the night, the body was discovered only in the morning,” the police said.

The police are yet to ascertain the motive for the murder and the identity of the murderer.

Body found

A body of an unidentified man was found by passersby at the South End Circle around 2 a.m. here on Tuesday. The body was still unclaimed, said the Jayanagar police, and they await the results of an autopsy to reveal the cause of death.

Gored to death

One person died when he was trampled to death by a tusker on Tuesday morning in Kenchanapalya, about 15 km from Kengeri town, hear here.

Around 9 a.m., Mariappa (35) and three others, all agricultural labourers, had gone to work in the fields off the Bangalore-Mysore Highway when a wild elephant attacked them. Talaghattapura police said the elephant lifted Mariappa and gored him to death.

Forest officials and police believe that the lone elephant came from the forests close to Savanadurga.

Robbery

A mobile phone and cash were snatched from a call centre employee in Basaveshwaranagar in the early hours of Tuesday.

Kamakshipalya police said that around 12.30 a.m., Harshvardhan (22) was walking home after getting dropped by a cab on Siddaiah Puranik Road, when four men accosted him and threatened him with a knife. The police said that they had arrested two of the accused, Manikanta (20) and Ravi (19), while the other accused in the case are still absconding.

Money lender held

A moneylender, who illegally lent money at extortionate interest rates, was arrested in Malleswaram here on Monday.

Acting on the numerous complaints, the Central Crime Branch (Frauds and misappropriation) raided a house in 8{+t}{+h} Main Road, Malleswaram and arrested Srinivas Naidu (50).

The police said that he charged 10 to 15 per cent interest per month for the money he lent to hawkers, autorickshaw owners and drivers, allegedly hiring thugs to threaten defaulters. The police said that he had accumulated around Rs. 50 lakh illegally.

Promissory notes, chequebooks, a mobile phone and Rs. 75,100 in cash were seized during the raid.

Accused arrested

An employee accused of stealing diamond and gold ornaments from a jewellery store in Jayanagar on August 5 was arrested here on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off by the Bellary police, Sohanlal Khatri (28) was arrested when he was fleeing the State in a private bus.

The city police sought the help of the Bellary police, Maharashtra police and Rajasthan police to track down Khatri.
