Legal hurdles for the ambitious tri-lingual biopic on slain forest brigand Veerappan, has finally been cleared with the Madras High Court on Friday showing green signal for the release of Attahasa (Kannada), Veerappan (Telugu) and Vanayuddham (Tamil) directed by AMR Ramesh.
Speaking to The Hindu Mr. Ramesh said the tri-lingual biopic on Veerappan could hit the screens as early as February 14 or 15. Journalist Nakkeeran Gopal, who earlier sought an injunction against the film’s release withdrew the case after watching the film, said Mr. Ramesh.
Senior advocate A. Natarajan, who argued case on behalf of Mr. Ramesh said Muthulakshmi, wife of Veerappan, filed an appeal in the Chennai Civil Court restraining the film’s release. However, a civil revision petition was filed in Madras High Court questioning the appeal.
He said that the High Court on Friday upheld the contention of producer and director and allowed the release. “Finally truth prevailed, as the film was based on true story and public documents and there is nothing that hurts sentiments of either Muthulakshmi or her daughter, as argued,” he said.
Noted actor Kishore plays the lead role of Veerappan, Arjun Sarja as DGP K. Vijayakumar, Suresh Oberoi as Raj Kumar, Sulakshana as Parvathamma Rajkumar, veteran actor Jayachitra as Jayalalithaa and Vijayalakshmi as Muthulakshmi. Ramesh has also acted in the film as Gurunathan, lieutenant of Veerappan.
According to Mr. Ramesh, the film will unveil many little-known facts about Veerappan’s life and death.
