The Yeshwanthpur police have arrested a couple from Tamil Nadu who are accused of drugging their employer and robbing him of valuables worth Rs. 14 lakh in October.

The accused, Tirumurthy (35) and his wife Suguna (28), have been remanded in judicial custody.

According to the police, the couple, hailing from Dharmapuri, migrated to city three years ago and rented a house in Mathikere. They set up a scrap business but incurred huge losses following which Tirumurthy started working as domestic help in moneylender Krishnappa’s house.

Tirumurthy, who noticed valuables at Krishnappa's house, hatched a plan to become rich overnight.

On October 10, when Krishnappa’s family members were away, the couple offered their employer food laced with sedative.

After sedating Krishnappa, they ransacked the house and made away with the valuables worth Rs. 14 lakh.

The Yeshwanthpur police tracked the couple through mobile call details and nabbed them. The stolen booty has been recovered.

A 27-year-old truck driver was killed on the spot when a speeding cab knocked him down on Ramamurthynagar junction early on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Manjunath, a resident of Tumkur.

According to the police, Manjunath had parked his truck on the roadside and was sleeping. He got up in the middle of the night and went to the other side of the road to relieve himself. While he was returning to the truck, a car knocked him down, killing him on the spot.

Passersby who took down the number of the car informed the police.

The K.R. Puram traffic police have tracked down the vehicle.

However, the driver is still on the run.
