An elderly couple was found dead in their locked house at Sultanpalya in Hebbal on Tuesday. The deceased, Venkoba Rao (80) and Kalavathi Bai (76), had no children, THE police said.

Venkoba Rao was a retired policeman who had served with the City Armed Reserves (CAR). Going by preliminary reports, Kalavathi Bai had died two to three days prior to her husband, police added.

Neighbours alerted the police after a foul odour began emanating from the house. They told the police that the coupe never interacted with anyone. The police were able to trace one relative, Nagaratna, who said that the couple did not keep in touch even though she lived nearby.

Their house was filled with plastic bottles and coconut shells, cops said.

A senior police officer said, “It looks like the deaths were due to old age. There was no food intake for days together. However, we have taken up a case of unnatural deaths and are investigating to rule out foul play.”
