The bodies of an Ayurvedic doctor and her husband, an IT professional, who committed suicide in the home in Amarajyothinagar, were found on Tuesday night.
Vijayanagar police said the body Sowmya Kumari (26) was found on the floor while Sandeep Hegde (28) was found hanging. The police said there was another rope hanging from the ceiling and Sowmya had ligature marks on her neck.
Officials suspect the couple — from Dakshina Kannada — committed suicide Monday night but the bodies were only found on Tuesday night by a relative. They believe Sowmya took her life first and Sandeep followed suit.
Sandeep, a process engineer with an IT firm, married Sowmya, pursuing her MD in Ayurvedic medicine, three-and-a-half years ago.
On Tuesday night, Sowmya’s mother tried calling her daughter as usual. Finding no response, she called Sandeep’s number. When he too did not receive the call, the mother grew concerned and called her other son-in-law, Anoop Kumar, who lives in Srinagar, and asked him to check.
When Mr. Kumar went to the couple’s residence, he found the door locked. On peering through a window, he saw Sandeep’s body. He called the police who also found Sowmya’s body.
The police, who registered a case of unnatural death, are yet to ascertain the cause of suicide. The couple’s relatives claimed that there was no marital dispute or any financial crisis regarding the couple.
