Councillor slapped me five times: BBMP employee

May 30, 2013 12:09 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 09:06 pm IST - Bangalore:

A Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office assistant was allegedly assaulted by Yediyur councillor N.R. Ramesh on Wednesday.

E. Suresh, who is also member of the BBMP Employees’ Association, told The Hindu he was assaulted around 10.45 a.m. when he tried to prevent the councillor from gate-crashing into the office of BBMP’s IT adviser Sheshadri.

“I did not know he was a councillor. When he was barging in, I asked him who he was and asked him to come back during visiting hours (between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.). He started verbally abusing me and went inside. He came out a few minutes later, abused me again and slapped me five times.”

He said that he was taken to Victoria Hospital after the incident.

“I am still suffering from neck pain after being slapped. I was assaulted for just doing my job.”

Meanwhile, the association apprised BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah of the incident. Mr. Suresh, accompanied by the members, filed a complaint against Mr. Ramesh with the Ulsoor Gate police.

Attempts to contact Mr. Ramesh were in vain. The association will stage a protest at the BBMP head office on Thursday morning.
