If the Bharatiya Janata Party central election committee gives its nod, then brothers of the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, and the former Minister, Murugesh Nirani, will get party ticket to contest the forthcoming elections to the Legislative Council from the local bodies and teachers’ constituencies, respectively.
The BJP State election committee has forwarded the names of 16 candidates, including those of the two leaders’ brothers, to the central election committee for clearance.
While Mr. Jagadish Shettar’s brother Pradeep Shettar’s name has been recommended for Dharwad local bodies’ constituency, Mr. Murugesh Nirani’s brother Hanumath Nirani’s name has been recommended for Northwest teachers’ constituency.
As indicated earlier, the party has not considered MLC G. Madhushudhan’s candidature for these polls.
Other candidates
The other candidates whose names have been recommended are Arun Shahapur (Northwest teachers’ constituency), M. Nagaraja (West Teachers) M.V. Ravishankar (South Graduates); local bodies constituencies — S. Raghu (Mysuru), M.P. Kushalappa (Kodagu), Kota Srinivas Poojary (Dakshina Kannada), M.K. Pranesh (Chikkmagaluru), R.K. Siddaramanna (Shimoga), Ganapathi D. Ulwekar (Uttara Kannada), Mahantesh Kavatagimath (Belagavi), G.S. Nyamagouda (Vijayapura), B.G. Patil (Kalaburagi), C.V. Chandrashekhar (Raichur) and K.S. Naveen (Chitradurga).
