Corporal punishment: Summons to school management

November 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - BENGALURU:

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has issued a summons to the management of the school that had allegedly sent a 13-year-old boy back home to bring his notebook.

Complaint filed

The boy, who had undergone surgery recently, was made to walk five kilometres on Friday. After this, his father filed a complaint against Sandeepani Niketan English High School where the boy studies.

Kripa Alva, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), said that the commission had taken cognisance of the complaint. “We will look into the case. If the school management is found guilty, we will recommend strict action,” Ms. Alva said.

‘Unaware of surgery’

Meanwhile, the school authorities claimed that it was an ‘oversight’.

They hold that they were unaware that the boy was staying far away from the school. The authorities also denied knowing that he had undergone surgery recently.
