The Chikkajala police cracked a murder case in less than five hours and arrested a 33-year-old cook for allegedly killing his friend’s sister. The accused, Ramesh N. who lives in Doddaballapura, had taken a loan of ₹1.5 lakh, which he was unable to repay.

“When moneylenders began to harass him, he allegedly decided to kill the victim [Chandrakala] and steal her valuables. He paid off his loan three hours after he murdered her,” said the police. Ramesh knew Chandrakala through her brother Jagdish. According to the police, the accused knew her husband was away at work for the better part of the day.

On April 19, he visited her knowing that she was alone at home. “He allegedly smothered her to death and fled with her earrings and gold chain weighing 75 grams,” the police added.

He allegedly pawned the jewellery at a gold loan firm immediately after the murder and returned to his house with the cash.

When the police were alerted of the murder that day, they started questioning residents and found an eyewitness who saw Ramesh at the crime scene.
