Constable arrested for sexual assault on colleague

The Upparpet police have arrested a constable for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman constable and reneging on his promise to marry her citing their different backgrounds.

The accused, Amin S., a native of Bagalkot, was produced in court on Friday.

According to the police, the two met at a training session in November 2015. The remained in contact after the program, and Amin allegedly promised to marry her. In her statement to the police, she claimed to have introduced him to her family. In 2016, while she was alone in her sister’s house in Vijayapura, he visited her and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

According to the complainant, he followed her to Bengaluru and demanded that they continue their relationship, promising that they would get married soon. “However, he reneged on the promise,” said the police.

The victim lodged a complaint against him on June 7. Since then, Amin had been on the run until he was arrested on Thursday.
