Conman robs elderly woman of her gold chain, earrings

Posing as a Good Samaritan, a conman robbed an elderly woman of her gold chain and a pair of earrings in Kamala Nagar in Basaveshwara Nagar on Friday after promising to help her get old age pension.

The accused approached Venkatalakshammamma posing as staff of the social welfare department and had a letter head of postal department. He promised to help her get old age pension of Rs. 1100 per month.

Venkatalakshnmmamma, mother of Manjunath, who works as Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy’s chauffeur, readily agreed and provided the required details.

After taking down the details, the accused asked her to pose for a picture and advised her to remove the gold valuables she was wearing stating that it could affect her chances of getting the pension sanctioned.

Believing his words, Venkatalakshmmamma removed the gold and handed it over the accused. After clicking the picture, the accused asked Venkatalakshamma to get the photocopy of the application form from a near-by shop and escaped with the valuables.

When Venkatalakshammamma returned with the application form, she realised that the man had made away with her a gold chain and a pair of earrings weighing 50 grams.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police have taken up a case and are trying to identify the accused. Initial inquiries revealed that the accused had tried to con three elderly women hours before he duped Venkatalakshmmamma.

Three men rob gold from a parked car

In a similar incident, three men broke open the windshield of a parked car and made away with 40 gram of gold and silver articles in BDA complex in Nagarabhavi on Thursday afternoon.

The accused diverted the attention of a security guard deployed at the parking lot before carrying out the robbery.

However, the entire act was recorded on CCTv installed at the complex.

The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have taken up a case based on the complaint filed by the owner of the car. According to the police, the owner of the car, Satyanarayana, had gone for shopping after parking his car.
