The Congress has decided to urge the Election Commission of India (EC) not to postpone elections to four seats of the Rajya Sabha (RS) from Karnataka, which is scheduled on June 11.
KPCC president G. Parameshwara told presspersons here that the party would submit a petition to the EC on Monday as the sting operation — conducted by TV news channels showing some legislators negotiating money for their votes — has not shown the involvement of Congress legislators.
Inquiry sought
Janata Dal (Secular) spokesperson Ramesh Babu requested the EC to take serious note on the corrupt practices going on in the RS polls and sought a proper inquiry. Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha on Saturday told The Hindu that the EC has sought a report from him on the sting operation, which showed four MLAs, including two of the JD(S), allegedly seeking bribes.
Mr. Jha, who is the returning officer for the RS polls in the State, said he would write to all TV news channels seeking unedited version of video recordings to study the matter. “A factual report” will be submitted to the EC after submitting the video recordings of the sting operation, he said.
