The Congress has suspended two councillors of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) who were arrested recently. They were suspended by the party’s city unit on the direction of KPCC president G. Parameshwara.

Sudhamanagar councillor Avvai was trapped by the Lokayukta while she was taking a bribe from a poor man who was running a tiny, illegal eatery on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Azadnagar councillor Gowramma was arrested by the police in connection with the murder of RTI activist Lingaraju.

Though the embarrassed party leadership suspended both the councillors from the Congress, the two will continue to be councillors, a party source said.

It may be recalled that the party had also suspended Ganesh Mandir ward councillor S. Govindaraju and Ramaswamypalya councillor N. Chandra.
