Congress protests against I-T department

March 22, 2018 02:13 pm | Updated 02:13 pm IST - Bengaluru

In a rare event, Congress leaders from the state held a protest dharna in front of Income Tax (I-T) Department office on Infantry Road in the city on Thursday. The protest by activists of the National Students Union of India was led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s working president Dinesh Gundu Rao and Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris.

The Congress has alleged that the I-T department is being misused by BJP-led union government to target its (Congress) leaders and party ahead of the election season.

Incidentally, the protest was held on the same day Energy Minister and Congress strongman D.K. Shivakumar appeared before the Economic Offences Court in relation to a criminal prosecution launched by I-T Department following a search operation against him last August.

Following the protest, traffic on the arterial Infantry Road and surrounding roads, including Cunningham Road, Queen’s Road and T. Chowdaiah Road, was affected.
