Congress MLA facing disproportionate assets case

August 24, 2012 08:58 am | Updated 08:58 am IST - BANGALORE:

A private complaint accusing Congress MLA Baburao Chinchansur of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income was filed before the Special Lokayukts Court on Thursday.

Mr. Chinchansur, who represents the Gurmitkal constituency in Gulabarga district, allegedly owns assets that are 628 per cent more than his known sources of income. In real terms, his total disproportionate assets are worth Rs. 12.92 crore, according to complainant Shantappa Saibanna, a practising lawyer.

Submitting a list of the MLA’s assets, Mr. Shantappa’s lawyer Byatha N. Jagadeesha told the court that Mr. Chinchansur’s income earned in the 22 years between 1989 (when he first won an election) and 2011 is Rs. 1.56 crore. However, his total assets accumulated over the same period stood at Rs. 14.42 crore. After subtracting his expenses as well as loans taken by him, there was still a difference of Rs. 12.92 crore.

The case has been adjourned to Friday.
