The State Congress has instructed all party MPs, Ministers, legislators, chairpersons of boards/corporations, district and block presidents to donate funds for building a new Congress Bhavan, behind the present party office on the Queens Road in the city.

The building is expected to cost Rs 12 crore and a few months ago the foundation was laid for it.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G. Parameshwara had written to Ministers and legislators to donate Rs. five and one lakh respectively. MPs also have been asked to donate Rs. five lakh. District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs and Block Congress Committee presidents have been told to donate Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 10,000, respectively.

While some ministers already donated funds, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to donate funds to the party office from his salary”, Mr. Parameshwara told presspersons here on Thursday.

Following instructions from the high command, the party has decided to collect Rs. 250 from persons who wanted to enrol for the party’s membership. The party has also launched online membership drive through AICC website and Facebook.

Mr. Parameshwara, who chaired a meeting with party officers of all districts, said DCC chiefs have been instructed to prepare a road-map for selecting candidates for elections scheduled to be held for to Gram Panchayats in May and submit it to the KPCC in the next 15 days.

Protest

He said the party would hold a massive rally against NDA government’s Ordinance on land acquisition at the Freedom Park on March 14.
