Complaint in Lokayukta court against D.K. Shivakumar

March 07, 2012 10:21 am | Updated 10:21 am IST - BANGALORE:

A private complaint was filed against Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar in the Special Lokayukta Court here on Monday.

The complaint is likely to have serious political implications as it accuses Mr. Shivakumar of securing an illegal favour from his political rival and the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The complainant, T.J. Abharam, has alleged that Mr. Shivakumar secured an illegal de-notification of four acres and one gunta of land at Benniganahalli, Old Madras Road, using the influence of the former Chief Minister.

He has stated that the land, located two kilometres from the Metro Rail terminus at Byappanahalli, was worth Rs. 40 crore.

It was de-notified on May 13, 2010 to benefit Mr. Shivakumar, the complaint alleges.

Mr. Shivakumar purchased 5.11 acres of land, which had been acquired by the BDA for a layout, from Sreenivasan on December 18, 2003 for Rs. 1.62 crore.

The complainant stated that Mr. Shivakumar's purchase was itself in violation of the Karnataka Restriction of Transfer of Land Act 1991, as section 3 of the Act bans people from selling land subsequent to acquisition.

The case has been posted for March 7.

The court will decide whether to admit the complaint or not on that day.
