January 29, 2013 08:08 am | Updated 08:29 am IST - BANGALORE:

A complaint has been filed with the Lokayukta against Textile Minister Varthur Prakash for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Complainant Shankare Gowda on Monday submitted documents to show that the declarations made by Mr. Prakash before the Election Commission did not match with those he made before the Lokayukta.

Declaration

In his declaration before the EC ahead of the 2008 Assembly elections, Mr. Prakash, MLA for Kolar, claimed that he owned nothing.

However, after he was elected, he made a declaration before the Lokayukta that he was the part owner and Managing Director of Nithin Projects Private Ltd., a construction company, which he set up in 2007.

Further, his declaration to the Lokayukta shows that he had been earning an annual income of Rs. 15 lakh from the company.

The complainant also pointed out that in his 2010 declaration before the Lokayukta, Mr. Prakash had shown that he owned 1 kg of gold and 10 kg of silver articles.
