A case has been registered against former Mayor Manjunath Reddy and his son for allegedly assaulting their political opponent for cleaning up the area in Maruthi Nagar after the rainfall last Tuesday.

The Madiwala police said that Mr. Reddy and his son Litesh Reddy have been accused of abusing and assaulting Harinath Reddy and Ravi Kumar Reddy who had come to help clean up the house of their friend Naresh. The house had been inundated with sewage when a storm water drain overflowed during the incessant rain.

In a complaint, Mr. Harinath Reddy alleged that objecting to their help, Mr. Manjunath Reddy and Litesh went to the spot and began to hurl abuses at and assault them. Neighbours rushed in and pacified the former Mayor and his son, the complainant alleged.

Mr. Manjunath Reddy, however, refuted the allegation that his political opponent were making up the issue to tarnish his image.
